Questions members ask
Straight answers on joining, saving, borrowing and how the Sacco works. Still unsure? Call 0720 270 177.
- Who can join Mutheki Sacco?
- The Sacco grew out of Kahawa Wendani and Githurai 45, and those remain its home areas. Whether membership is open beyond them is set by the bylaws — ask the office or send us a message on WhatsApp and we will confirm for your situation.
- How much does it cost to join?
- Joining involves an entrance fee, buying share capital, and starting your monthly savings. The exact amounts are set by the bylaws — send us the joining form or message us on WhatsApp for the current figures.
- What documents do I need to join?
- Typically a completed membership form, a copy of your national ID and passport photos. Bring the originals when you visit the office. Please do not send your ID number through website forms or email.
- How do Sacco loans work?
- Members save regularly, then borrow against their savings record. Most loans need guarantors — other members who stand with you. The credit committee approves each application under the Sacco's credit policy.
- What is a guarantor?
- A guarantor is another member who agrees to cover your loan if you cannot repay. You will usually need guarantors for larger loans, which is one reason saving consistently and being known in the Sacco matters.
- What interest rate do loans carry?
- Rates and repayment periods differ by loan type and are set by the Sacco's credit policy. Ask the office for the current rate for the loan you want — any figure on this website is indicative only.
- Can I withdraw my savings anytime?
- Member deposits at Mutheki Sacco are non-withdrawable while you remain a member — they are what back your loans. When the Sacco qualifies for front office services (FOSA), withdrawable accounts may become available. That step is still ahead of us.
- How do I leave the Sacco, and what happens to my money?
- Exit is governed by the bylaws. Generally you give written notice, clear any outstanding loans or find another member to take over guarantees, and your deposits are refunded under the rules. Ask the office for the exact procedure.
- Do members earn dividends?
- Dividends on share capital and interest on deposits are declared at the AGM when the Sacco's performance allows. The amounts depend on each year's results and are approved by the members.
- Is Mutheki Sacco regulated?
- Mutheki Sacco Society Ltd was registered on 13 December 2012 under the then Ministry of Cooperative Development and Marketing. Its current regulator status will be shown in the footer once confirmed by the committee.
- How do I make a complaint?
- Use the Complaints & Feedback form, call 0720 270 177, or visit the office. We acknowledge complaints and aim to respond within a stated time — currently being confirmed, and it will be published here.
- Is my information safe with the Sacco?
- Yes. The Sacco handles member data under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 — see our Privacy Policy. And a warning worth repeating: Mutheki Sacco will never ask for your PIN or password.
