Who we are

A welfare group that grew into a Sacco

Mutheki began in 2010 as a welfare group of fifteen members drawn from Kahawa Wendani and Githurai 45, mobilising funds so members could support one another in times of need.

As members and savings grew, the members resolved to register as a Savings and Credit Cooperative Society. Mutheki Sacco Society Ltd was registered on 13 December 2012 — and has been member-owned ever since.

Common questions

Before you ask

Who can join Mutheki Sacco?
The Sacco grew out of Kahawa Wendani and Githurai 45, and those remain its home areas. Whether membership is open beyond them is set by the bylaws — ask the office or send us a message on WhatsApp and we will confirm for your situation.
How much does it cost to join?
Joining involves an entrance fee, buying share capital, and starting your monthly savings. The exact amounts are set by the bylaws — send us the joining form or message us on WhatsApp for the current figures.
What documents do I need to join?
Typically a completed membership form, a copy of your national ID and passport photos. Bring the originals when you visit the office. Please do not send your ID number through website forms or email.
How do Sacco loans work?
Members save regularly, then borrow against their savings record. Most loans need guarantors — other members who stand with you. The credit committee approves each application under the Sacco's credit policy.
