How Mutheki Sacco began: 15 members, one promise

Mutheki Sacco did not begin in an office. It began in 2010 as a welfare group of fifteen members drawn from Kahawa Wendani and Githurai 45, mobilising funds so members could support one another in times of need.

As members and savings grew, the members resolved at an annual meeting to register the group as a Savings and Credit Cooperative Society, and elected the founding officials. Mutheki Sacco Society Ltd was registered on 13 December 2012 under the then Ministry of Cooperative Development and Marketing.

The next milestone is registration for front office service activities (FOSA), once the Sacco meets the minimum requirements. The promise from 2010 still holds: members saving together and standing with each other.
